When applying for an outgoing student exchange program from KAIST, it is important to work through each step of the application process : noting application
deadlines, financial implications of your exchange program, and researching your destination by consulting the university profiles from our list of partner institutions.
Once you have an idea of what would work best for you, please contact the KAIST International Relations Team coordinator to discuss your options.
It is also important that prior to submitting your application, you read through the descriptions of the courses you plan to study overseas discuss with the staff
in charge of academic affairs.
Your choice of institution will be guided by your study needs. Some institutional agreements are limited to students from a particular faculty or department.
See the individual university profiles from our partner institutions to find out if your planned course is suitable. Consult your KAIST course outline to determine
what courses you need to complete while overseas and take electives during student exchange program, when possible.
To determine if courses are suitable at your host institution, consult the websites of our partner institutions.
The head of your department ultimately decides how many credits you will receive for each subject you took overseas based on his/her review of the course
content and assessment.
As a KAIST student you can study for one or two semesters at an overseas university and earn credit towards your degree
through the KAIST Student Exchange Program.
Tuition fees at the host institution are waived, but students are required to pay travel and living expenses.
The ideal time to go on exchange is during your second semester of your second year, or first semester of your third year (undergraduate),
or second semester (graduate).
Many of KAIST's exchange agreements are established for undergraduate student exchange only.
However, some faculties have entered into exchange agreements that include or focus specifically on graduate coursework exchanges.
Please refer to our list of partner institutions.
If you require further information about partner institutions, please drop by the International Relations Team, located on the 1st floor of the International Center
(W2-1), Daejeon main campus.
Office hours are Monday ~ Friday from 9 A.M. ~ 6 P.M.

Mirrae Asset Scholarship
The Mirrae Asset Student Exchange Scholarship Program is a scholarship foundation that is funding student's education abroad and their experience of different
cultures in order to become global leaders in the future. This scholarship program started in 2008 and will be selecting 5000 students in a span of 10 years.
After having been selected by the International Relations Team (IRT), students need to check the IRT homepage announcements or the Mirrae Asset
Scholarship mepage. (http://foundation.miraeasset.com) because the selection criteria changes every semester.
ASEM-Duo Program
ASEM member countries form a pair (Europe-Asia) and exchange personnel. Upon exchange, scholarship is provided through this program.
ASEM-Duo has scholarships available for: Duo-Korea, Duo-France, and Duo-Singapore
This is an exchange between ASEM member countries, so the applicant must check if their country is a member of ASEM. (There are 25 ASEM member countries:
Greece, Denmark, Belgium, France, Finland, Germany, England, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Ireland, Austria, China, Japan,
Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, and Brunei.) Duo-Korea exchanges with European ASEM member countries.
Those applying through Duo-Korea must be affiliated with a Korean educational institute and must find a pair amongst one of the European ASEM member
countries. If a European ASEM member country wishes to exchange with Korea, the Korean educational institution must find its pair, then the applicant may
apply to Duo-Korea through the Korean institution. But, a formal exchange agreement must exist between the Korean and European educational institutions.
Scholarships will be provided to both students when selected. When forming pairs, the candidates must be from the same domain (i.e. student-student) and
below is the definition of a student :
* A Student is defined as someone enrolled in a formal educational institute obtaining a degree (undergraduate, masters, or ph-d)
There are minor differences between programs. Active undergraduate, graduate, and professors may participate in this program.
For example, Elementary, Middle and High school teachers may also apply, but if they have already graduated and are not active in an educational institution,
they are not eligible to apply.
The International Relations Team will inform you of the documents needed once the plausibility of the 1:1 exchange with the European sister school has been
confirmed. Students must then fill out the application and submit necessary documents to the International Relations Team.
The ASEM-Duo scholarship foundation decides who the beneficiaries are; therefore, benefits are not guaranteed.
